Course Overview
The advanced Bee Taxonomy course is a 5-day training course which takes place in the laboratory. The course focuses on taxa.
The aim of the course is to build a network of experts in all EU Member States who are able to accurately identify pollinator species, in order to support EU pollinator conservation efforts and the EU Biodiversity Strategy 2030.
This course is part of the EPIC-Bee training programme led by UMONS in Belgium. The course will last 5 full days in the laboratory providing to specialize in the indentification of the following taxa: Megachilidae, Anthophorini, Melectini, Andrena, Colletidae, Halictini, Xylocopinae, Eucerini, Bumblebees, Melittidae, Rophitinae, Panurginae, Ancylaini, Nominae and brood parasitic bees.
Who should attend?
Target Audience: Individuals that will be the trainers of the intermediate courses.
If you are interested in participating, you should get in touch with the entity in your country in charge of the EU-PoMS.
Learning objectives
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Deepen their identification skills in the most complex bee genera in Europe.
- Understand where one’s own limits are and learn to provide an identification only when it’s certain.
- Know how to prepare training content and prepare a training approach for taxonomy courses.
